Ponds will be stocked with catfish and trout so children up to 15 years old can fish for free as the Anderson River Park plays host once again to the Family Fun Fest and Kids' Fishing Day event on April 25, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. This event is in its ninth year running, with 2,000 attending last year.
Some loaner poles and bait will be available at the event, thanks to donations by the Department of Fish and Game and the National Turkey Foundation.
The event goes beyond fishing, though, with performances by local youth groups, student choirs and choral groups. Maps for the riverpark's disc golf course will also be available.
About 14 booths will be set up, each with a different activity for youth, according to Anderson Parks and Recreation Activities Director Pam Lewis.
"It's a free day of family fun for everybody," Lewis said.
APD Citizens on Patrol have planned a bicycle rodeo to test youths' knowledge of city bike-riding rules.
A petting zoo and food vendors are also planned for the event. The Family Fun Fest and Kids' Fishing Day will go on whether rain or shine. No dogs, alcohol or drugs are allowed at the event.
Sponsors of the event include City of Anderson Parks and Recreation, Anderson Partnership for Healthy Children, Shasta County Public Health, Calif. Dept. of Fish and Game, and the Anderson Valley Post.
