Happy Valley Pride: April 15, 2009

Rain, Rain, Rain How I love the sound Against my window pane See the drops slide Down the flowers lip

Thank you, Lord, for the wonderful rain. May all your creatures give you glory and thanks.

My husband has barrels under all our downspouts. He watered all our plants that are under the eaves of our house and then he sprinkled his potatoes.

With this latest rain, the barrels have refilled so he will be putting that water into the swimming pool. He calls this project the Water Farm.

It's amazing how much water we have already recycled, but I would not like to do it forever. However, I will be more thoughtful in the future of how I use my water.

My son Anthony, who lives in Anderson, brings me 10 gallons of water a week. While this may not seem a lot, it is 10 gallons that I can use on my blueberries. Dan, my other son, lives in Redding where residents are getting 100 percent of their water.

He asks, "Why they can't share with the communities who have so little?"

I have found out, after being on the water board, that nothing is simple when it concerns our government.

People ask me how my berries will survive. I just tell them to pray for rain and with God's help, we will get through this. Amen.

Don't forget this week on Thursday, April 16 - Happy Valley Farm Trail "Let's Get Through The Drought Together!" at 7 p.m., at Happy Valley Community Center. Lots of good information will be available.

Saturday, April 18 - Happy Valley Pride Days, "Show Off Happy Valley Day," roadside clean up, 8 a.m. at the Community Center. Bring your Pride Day T-shirt, good shoes, water, your enthusiasm. Coffee and donuts will be available; bags and grabbers will be provided.

Tuesday, April 21 - Workshop at Shasta Collage, Room 1425, 6:30 p.m., "Strategy of Managing Agriculture /Horticulture Crops with Reduced Irrigation Deliveries."

Marjorie Lewis is planning to have a farmers market in Ono. She would like to know if there are any farmers out there that may be interested. If so, call her at 396-2250.

I am out of here. Keep the faith, recycle, volunteer and have a blessed Easter.
