Anderson Heights locks down during arrest of Anderson man

Francisco Palos, 21, of Anderson, was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 1500 block of Spruce Circle for attempted robbery with a firearm on March 4 in Redding, according to Sgt. Bruce Bonner of the Redding Police Department. Also arrested at the residence was Merton Weiser, 26, of Redding, for parole violation.

Amid what Bonner called "a large contingency of law enforcement officers in the area," Anderson Heights Elementary School, at 1530 Spruce Circle in Anderson, experienced a lock-down ending at roughly 2:15 p.m.

"There was no need for a lockdown, it wasn't requested," Bonner said. "They did the lock-down themselves. It never can hurt, but there was no need."

"This [the lock-down] was in response to notification and in coordination with law enforcement agencies attempting to issue a high-risk warrant in the area near the school," according to a written statement from Cascade Union Elementary District Supervisor Wes Smith. "There was not an imminent threat to our students. We took every precaution necessary possible, erring on the side of caution to ensure our students were not in harm's way."
