Week of the Young Child celebrated

The Happy Valley Children's Asset Fair will take place on Wednesday, April 22, at the Primary School on Cloverdale Road.

The Asset Fair is an annual celebration of the Week of the Young Child. This year, the event takes place between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The event includes a spaghetti dinner.

Children will enjoy activities such as games, face painting, make and take projects and, of course, prizes. Adults will receive oral health education, information on community agencies and on pre-school and kindergarten enrollment.

A new event - box car races - will be added this year. Children are encouraged to bring a decorated box (with no bottom), large enough for the child to sit in. The decorating project should be, if possible, an activity including the child and family. However, there will be an area available for those who need to decorate a box at the last minute.

During the race, the child's legs will serve as the wheels. A pair of extra shoes will be needed for "tire changing," a glass of water will represent fuel and sunglasses will take the place of a windshield.

Children between the ages of 2 and 8 years may participate.

Everyone gets a trophy!

All children must be accompanied by an adult and family members will act as pit crews.

The race should be lots of fun for participants and hilariously entertaining for spectators. Don't forget that extra pair of shoes.

All activities, as well as the spaghetti dinner, are free! For more information, contact Project Coordinator Sandy Garcia at 357-4146.
