Five-time Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association "Comedy Act of the Year" performer Troy Lerwill, aka Wild Child, as well as The Man in the Can, will make a return appearance to the 88th annual Red Bluff Round Up, scheduled for April 17-19, announced David Ramelli, president of the rodeo committee.
Lerwill began his bullfighting career in 1994 and joined the PRCA in 1997. He was twice named as the Coors Man in the Can award-winner given to bullfighters who climb into the barrel used by some bulls as a head-butting target.
Lerwill used his experiences as a professional motocross racer to add creative and daring stunts to his bullfighting act.
He has performed his legendary stunt of jumping a dirt bike over a Bloomer stock trailer and Dodge pick-up truck at the Calgary Stampede, the California State Fair and the Red Bluff Round Up, among other venues as part of Cotton Rosser's Flying U Rodeo Company.
Red Bluff's annual celebration of Wild West sports and athleticism begins April 11 with a chili cook-off. A golf tournament for cowboys, cowgirls and celebrities is set for April 14 at Sevillano Links at the Rolling Hills Casino in Corning. A Cowboy Poetry Reading will be held April 15, and the Round-Up Mixer, put on by the Red Bluff Chamber of Commerce on April 16 is a must for city folk as well as rural residents, Ramelli said.
Saturday, April 18, a pancake breakfast will provide a nice prelude to the 54th annual Round-up Parade through downtown Red Bluff, he added.
The Red Bluff Round Up, which is part of the six-pack organization of PRCA rodeos in California and Nevada, always manages to leverage their collective resources in bringing some of the most popular and successful rodeo competitors to the annual event, Ramelli said.
