STORMING THE NET: West Valley's Jordan Burk gets airborne returning a volley from Anderson's Skylar Walker on Thursday, April 23, 2009.

West Valley cruised to a 9-0 victory against a new fledgling Anderson team on Thursday. The loss was the third game in so many days for the Anderson team. A steady wind looked to cause trouble for the players, but Anderson coach Peter Gabriele said the wind is part of the game when traveling to West Valley.

"They're going to have some problems," Gabriele said, "especially the servers."

The tennis player with the wind at his back is at a disadvantage, he said, because a shot going into the wind would more likely fall in bounds rather than sail out of bounds.

"But we're used to it," Gabriele said. "Every time we come up here it's the same way."

Of course, the players switch sides to even the playing field.

West Valley still proved too much for the Anderson club, however, as Anderson's Bradley Reinhart was the only player to win a set. Matchups were as follows: Jordan Burk defeated Skylar Walker, Kyle Marlatt defeated Mo Herscey, Logan Jorgensen defeated Manny Contreras, Chris James defeated Andrew Wehunt, ryan Shafer defeated Donnie Wonder, and David Fife defeated Bradley Reinhart.

West Valley improved to 6-3 in league play and 8-5 overall.

West Valley coach Tom Wyrick complimented the play of his top three players starting with Burk.

"He has really picked up the reigns and is really playing some good tennis."

Regarding Kyle Marlatt, coach said "he's always having fun, but he could work on his footwork to improve."

Wyrick also complimented Jorgensen, a first-year player and a senior.

"It's amazing how fast he's picked up the game," Wyrick said.

The Anderson team's record dropped to 1-10.
