April report to the city Council from ANTHS

This has been one crazy month and Anderson New Tech is filled with activities, academics, and achievement.

New Tech held an Open House on Thursday, April 23, with presentations, science demonstrations, drama performances and many other fun activities for attendees to enjoy.

Another fun event that is going to take place is New Tech's third annual "Evening of the Arts." This is a fantastic evening that shows off the wonderful artistic talents found at New Tech. There will be multiple showcases from our drama students, art students, and photography students.

There will also be refreshments for those who attend.

During "Evening of the Arts," there will be a silent auction held in which families can contribute an item ahead of time. Donations are much appreciated. If you have any questions, call 365-3100.

Following the thread of fundraisers, the ANTHS Sober Graduation committee is having a massive rummage sale in the New Tech parking lot on Saturday, May 9, to raise money for the annual Sober Grad party.

Feel free to come on down and rummage around. Who knows what you'll find. One thing is for sure, you'll be helping seniors stay safe on their big night.

New Tech's Robotics Club has been an enjoyable way for students drawn to science and mechanics to channel their talents into building robots.

This year, the Robotics Club attended the Botball Competition in San Jose on March 27-28. Sadly they did not win.

However, they did get their machine off the starting line, something that last year's ANTHS team failed to accomplish.

The important thing is that they all had fun and they represented the school well in a challenging situation. The Robotics Club will be displaying three new robots at our Open House and the fifth grade career day in late-May.

Science students at New Tech were to leave for Catalina Island on April 26. Catalina Island is a beautiful place that boasts some of the more gorgeous underwater gardens in the world as well as an unusual and unique island environment.

This annual trip is a great opportunity for students to branch out and see how beautiful our planet is and learn a little more about it.

As usual, the end of April brings the dread of STAR testing to all our younger students. The tests will be given on April 27-30 as well as May 5-6. Students are encouraged to eat a good breakfast and come prepared to test. All seniors at New Tech are confident that the younger students will do well, as usual.
