As a fundraiser benefiting the Good News Rescue Mission, Redding Adventist Academy will present a performance Thursday, April 30, of "The Court Jester."
This sixth annual charity performance included an adaptation of the 1950s musical comedy that starred Danny Kaye and Angela Lansbury.
In the past five years, the academy's performances have raised more than $11,000 to help the Mission.
"A Court Jester" is the story of a former carnival entertainer named Hawkins who wrangles his way into the medieval court of a tyrannical king responsible for the murder of the previous king and his family.
In a twist of events, Hawkins assumes the role of the court jester, with whom the new princess falls in love, thereby refusing to cooperate in a arranged marriage that would ensure the power of her wicked father.
The plot involves poisonous potions, jousting knights and, finally, the recovery of the rightful heir - a mere infant - to the throne. The original movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.
Redding Adventist Academy is a Kindergarten through twelfth-grade Christian school with a 75-year history in Redding. It is located at 1356 E. Cypress Ave., next door to Lowes.
