VICTORIA BASINGER

Victoria Basinger of Cottonwood, a senior at West Valley High School, was recently named recipient of the 19th annual Zoann McCain Memorial Journalism Scholarship.

Upon graduation in June, Basinger plans to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Basinger's outstanding grades, dedication to community service and oral interview secured her nomination for the 2009 award.

She eventually hopes to work as a television news anchor or talk show host, said Maxine Cambra of the Anderson Women's Club, the organization that administrates the memorial scholarship.

McCain was editor/general manager of the Anderson Press during the 1970s. She was killed by a drunk driver in 1979.
