Children's Asset Fair a big success

Last week, 225 people gathered at the Happy Valley Primary School to celebrate the Week of the Young Child.

Booths were set up inside and outside the cafeteria. Each booth represented one of forty developmental assets that have been identified by the Search Institute, an organization whose mission is to provide leadership, knowledge and resources to promote healthy children, youth and communities.

These assets are considered building blocks of development that help young children grow up to be healthy, caring and responsible adults.

Adults received information on community agencies and organizations, as well as health education. The children learned also as they wandered from booth to booth, working on activities and collecting items to take with them.

A free spaghetti dinner concluded the event.
