A new office for the Department of Social Services opened July 17 at the Public Health building, 2889 E. Center St. in Anderson. Although enrollment for benefits would still be handled at the Redding office, the Anderson branch serves some continuing clients residing in the South County, according to Deputy Director of Eligibility and Employment Sue Dodson.
"People will be able to get all services in one spot versus running all over for different services," said Linda Barba, program manager of Eligibility and Employment Services, last month.
The department has long-term goals of opening a full-service office in Anderson, and the small group of case workers in Anderson would be a step toward that goal, Barba said.
Casework handled at the Anderson branch would include CalWorks, MediCal, County MediCal Services Program, and foodstamp eligibility.
