Sarah Roberts, 27, of Redding, began working in the field of dog grooming five years ago after taking classes at PetSmart in Redding. She then started learning more from local groomer Becky Herzog of Redding.
Roberts began working as a bather for Becky's Grooming and then became a groomer.
After working there for several years, she is now working at Shampoodles in Anderson and attending Shasta College taking classes to earn her non-profit business certificate.
Roberts plans to continue grooming dogs, but dreams of opening a rescue animal shelter in Palo Cedro with the name of "Lost but Never Forgotten," she said. The named is memorial of two cats that she and her family rescued that didn't make it through their traumatic situation.
Roberts enjoys working with the animals and loves to start with a dog that is matted down and turning it into a brand new dog that it's owner doesn't recognize. She works approximately 20 hours per week and looks forward to opening her own shop someday.
"All the work that I do, including grooming and rescues is for the love of animals. People take them for granted," stated Roberts.
Robert's enjoys working in Anderson because it is quieter than Redding, and the people are less stressed out. This helps getting to know people and being able to work with their animals, she said.
Before moving to Redding to be near family, Roberts lived in Cottonwood. In her spare time, Roberts enjoys scrap booking and reading.
She is a 2001 graduate of El Molino High School in Forestville.
