It's the best swim camp in the county, according to more than one parent watching their children in the pool on the last day of the Anderson Parks and Recreation's Learn to Swim Program. The program, with classes held at the Anderson Union High School pool, assisted 254 swimmers this summer from infants to pre-teens.
According to swimming instructor Fraser Berry, the reaction to getting into the water varied among the young swimmers.
"Some don't like getting their faces into the water, and others are ready to jump off the diving board after the first session," he said.
Children learned swimming and diving techniques.
"I'm thrilled with the amount of confidence she has in the water now - and all in the last two weeks," Cottonwood resident Linda Leejohnson said of her eight-year-old daughter Patricia. "She always liked water, but not if her feet couldn't touch bottom."
The swimming instructors for the two week course received accolades from the parents as well.
"They're incredible with the kids," Jeana Pitari of Anderson said. "We tried it (the swim program) out and kept the kids in it for a month.
