Shuttered in July, the 49 Club in Anderson is now in foreclosure, business owner Raymond Randle told the Valley Post on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Randle had previously closed the bar's companion coffee shop, Copadouro, in January.
Despite his setbacks, Randle said he intends to reinvent both of those ventures in a building that he owns across the street at 2947 E. Center St.
The 49 Club closed due to lack of business, Randle said, although he allowed that the sour economy and a "cowboy bar" reputation that the 49 Club had in the past were equally to blame for the bar's most recent demise.
Randle had renovated and reopened the 49 Club in July 2008 as a jazz and blues bar. Randle has the same aim with his new venue.
The new bar and coffee house will cost less to run, he said, but will contain much of the same decor as the previous businesses, Randle said.
"It will be a smaller venue with a different name," said Randle, who hopes to have the new business opened by October.
"It's something I enjoy, It's not about the dollars," Randle said. "A lot of people want me to do this and there's a need for a place for people 35 to 70 (years old) to come and enjoy music - that's a motivating factor. A lot of people met each other and became friends here; I liked being a part of that."
