The Anderson United U19 boys traveling soccer team recently returned from Auburn victorious from their first tournament of the season held Aug. 8-9.

The United won two games and tied one game in their tournament bracket advancing the team to the final round. In the final game of the weekend, the United beat the Sierra Net Breakers 1-0 on a goal scored by Ray Close, assisted by Dylan Fematt, both of Cottonwood.

Their next tournament is Aug. 22-23 in Benecia.

"Most of the players on the team have been playing together on teams since they were young and are now playing together on high school teams," stated Erica Close.

They are coached by Bob Close, JC Fematt and Matt Bogdanovich, all whom have been coaching for many seasons with the team. The fall soccer season lasts until mid November depending on their win-loss record and how many tournaments the team plans on attending, Close said.
