Cottonwood couple to have golden anniversary

Long-time Cottonwood residents Lonnie and Joann Vanderburg will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the American Legion Post #746 located at 3297 Chestnut St. in Cottonwood.

Married Aug. 22, 1959, in Reno, Nev., the couple moved from Pleasant Hill, Calif., to the Bowman Road area in 1974. Lonnie Vanderburg, 70, still works part-time at Mercy Medical Center in Redding where he is on the maintenance crew. Joann Vandenburg worked at Mercy Medical Center in the housekeeping department until her retirement.

Along the way, the Vanderburgs had three sons, Lennie, Terry (now deceased) and Mike. They also regularly enjoy the company of their eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends and relatives from are invited to attend the 50th anniversary celebration, according to daughter-in-law June Vanderburg.
