Friday, Aug. 14, the Anderson Youth Soccer League held its annual opening ceremonies for the fall season, starting with a parade of the league's teams.

There are approximately 461 local youths playing in the league this year and 42 teams with players between the ages of 4 to 19. Some youths are playing in the recreation division, others at a more competitive level referred to as division 3 or D3 for short, league president Don Coon said.

Each team will play approximately 10 games throughout the season, he said.

There was a disk jockey on hand to entertain the crowd during games, a raffle for two bicycles for local youth and exhibition games throughout the three-hour event. The annual banner contest was judged by local dignitaries and board members.
