Vehicle fire near Kents suspicious, says investigator

Not willing to say the sport utility vehicle on fire in a field near Kent's Meats and Groceries on Airport Road in Anderson was stolen, Redding Fire Department spokesman Jeff Granberry did say the fire was suspicious. While the small spot fire was contained around 2:10 p.m., Granberry said investigators were still seeking the owner of the vehicle.

"It certainly seems suspicious, but this could still be a misunderstanding," Granberry said of whether the cause of the fire was arson. "This heat was definately a factor."

Temperatures in the afternoon were well over 100 degrees, according to accuweather.com.
