Anderson police searching for alleged armed robber

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday, a white man with an automatic handgun demanded an undisclosed amount of cash from a store clerk at Payless ShoeSource, 1713 Highway 273, in the Shasta Outlets shopping center, reported Captain Robert Kirvin of the Anderson Police Department.

Authorities called for assistance from a California Highway Patrol helicopter, which was unavailable in the InterMountain area en route to Bieber, according to scanner conversations between SHASCOM dispatchers and the helicopter pilot.

Motorized patrols searched Interstate 5 and State Highway 273 both north and south for several miles while Shasta County Sheriff's deputies looked along Deschutes Road for the suspect's reported tan four-door sedan of unknown make, model or year.

The man was described as 5-feet, 10-inches tall, early 30s, approximately 160 pounds with light brown beard, mustache, and a ponytail three-inches to four-inches long. He was seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, a white baseball cap and tan or white tennis-type shoes, Kirvin said.
