Letters to the editor: August 26, 2009

Dear Editor:

When the going gets tough, the tough get going! Right?

In this tough economic time, many programs and jobs have been lost.

Until recently, the Shasta County Talent Search was going to be one of them. For 21 years, this wonderful program was offered to youths. Thousands of youths participated in this activity over the years and now the county has dropped it.

Thanks to the Mt. Shasta Mall management, who have taken this program under their wing, and Jimmy Bryant's Entertainment, which will be doing our sound at half the usual fee, we will continue as usual with our first show on Sept. 11.

However, it's going to take more than a few dedicated individuals to keep it going. It's going to take PEOPLE WHO CARE about healthy programs for youths and can offer to help out by donating time or money.

Let's check our priorities and SAVE THE GOOD for the good of our youth here in the North State and show them how adults respond to tough times.

This program is now "by the People, for the People" and has been renamed the North State Talent Search.

The survival of this program is our job, and I know our community will be there to support this effort!

Sincerely,

Colleen Tanenbaum
