Anderson Union High School Principal Scott Booth knows a lot about South County schools.
Growing up, he attended area schools including West Valley High School. While attending West Valley, Booth played football and baseball all four years, participated heavily in student government and was the co-founder of Students Against Drunk Drivers.
After graduation high school in 1986, he went into the military for three years working on communications, operating aerial Doppler radar and performing maintenance on Black Hawk helicopters.
He also flew in air shows for one year, logging approximately 110 hours of performance flight time. Booth also spent time in Panama and Columbia meeting some wonderful people but also seeing some awful conditions. While in the military, he was based out of Texas and attended Central Texas College.
Although he enjoyed the military, it was not what he wanted for a career.
He returned home and enrolled at Shasta College where he completed his general education qualifications. He then transferred to Chico State University to pursue a law degree. In 1998, he graduated from Chico State with a bachelor's degree in history. He then attended Simpson University where he earned a teaching credential and graduated with honors in 2000.
Booth taught four years at West Valley High School before earning administration credentials at National University in 2005. He then became Assistant Principal at Anderson High School.
He has been the principal at Anderson High for two years and is looking forward to spending Sept. 3-5 celebrating the school's centennial with all of the school's past graduates as well as those of the future.
"We have truly compassionate kids here at Anderson.... They also have a lot of character. The kids spend time volunteering in the community and giving back," stated Booth.
"I am excited to celebrate 100 years of Anderson High School. Anderson has had a great impact on many people, enough so they are wanting to come back and celebrate and remember things that happened during their time here," said Booth.
Name: Scott Booth.
Born where and when: December 1967, Klamath Falls.
Occupation: Principal at Anderson Union High School.
Marital Status: Married to my beautiful wife and best friend, Brenda Booth.
Family: Son of Janet and Ray Booth; children Molly, 17, Owen, 8, and Dylan, 7.
Pets: My Basset Hound Ellie and Coalie, my black lab for hunting.
My worst job: When I first returned home from the service, in the summer of 1986, I worked as a laborer pouring concrete for a local contractor. It was a hot, dirty and humbling experience that motivated me to get back to college.
My favorite book: The historian in me....I enjoy The Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara and anything written by Stephen Ambrose.
My favorite movie: The Cowboys. I cried when John Wayne was killed in the movie.
My favorite recording artist: I have a pretty eclectic taste in music. Anything from Big Band Era of the '40s, contemporary is more like Coldplay and Nickleback, old school would be Van Halen and Christian Contemporary such as Mercy Me.
My dream car: is a 1966 Corvette Stingray convertible....PLEASE!
My friends like me because: I am pretty laid back and don't get overly excited too easily.
If stranded on a deserted island, I would want: My coffee and my family, of course.
The one thing in life I've learned is: In life, you are the captain of your ship. Nothing good comes without good, hard work and effort on your part.
The best advice my parents gave me: Really, it wasn't something they said to me, but how they both lived their lives. The driven work ethic of my father and the values of compassion, persistence and strength of my mother.
My most embarrassing moment was: The realization that I had gone into the wrong bathroom at the Oakland Coliseum in between innings.
My most valued material possession: My family pictures and two football section championship rings.
My hero is: My mother.
My pet peeve is: Wasting potential to do something spectacular.
If I could change one thing about myself, I would: Be more personable and outgoing like my Mom and Dad.
The most enjoyable thing about life is: Knowing that life is a finite adventure, with peaks and valleys to explore,so squeeze everything out now (the good and the bad), because paradise awaits.
