The new school year started Aug. 17, and with it, many new and exiting things that add to the beautiful presence of Anderson New Tech High School.
There are 52 incoming freshman, along with a 12 new upperclass members.
On top of the set of fresh students arriving this year, New Tech has an array of classes, teachers, and programs that will improve the look and feel of the school's atmosphere.
New Tech is happy to welcome two new faculty members. Valerie Ayabe teaches the latest New Tech curriculum addition, music appreciation. Her classroom, located in a 40-foot X 48-foot modular building, hosts three music labs - each including a set of speakers, headphones, keyboard and five types of music editing software.
The new software can also be used in other classes such as video production. Meanwhile, the modular building can also house the drama and PE classes for extra leg room.
New Tech also welcomes a new English teacher, Allyson Baldwin, to the faculty family.
The music class is only one of the additions to Anderson New Tech this year.
There is an advisory support program to help students with their organizational and academic skills, while adhering to the New Tech Learning Outcomes. On Thursdays, groups of twenty students from all grade levels meet with their teacher advisers to discuss three goals that they will complete over the course of a year. The advisory support groups start Sept. 10.
Lastly, New Tech has a PolyCom system that is being installed for classroom-to-classroom video interaction from as close as schools in Davis or Sacramento and even as far away as Hong Kong, China. Students and teachers will now be able to instantly communicate over a long range with other New Tech schools for various activities.
With the increased emphasis in art and outside learning experiences, New Tech is truly excelling in on-campus activities and reaching out to the community at large.
