A severely injured boy, 7, was taken into protective custody and a Cottonwood woman was arrested Friday, Dec. 11, on suspicion of attempted murder, torture, mayhem and severely abusing the child at a residence on Rhonda Road, Shasta County Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Shearman reported.

Shortly after 2:45 p.m., deputies and Child Protection Services employees arrived to conduct a welfare check after an anonymous reporter advised that a severely abused child was at the location, the sergeant's report states.

Gregory M. Limon, 22, of Redding was contacted outside the mobile home but he initially denied the presence of any children inside. He also refused to allow officers to enter the residence, according to the report.

Once authorities gained entrance, they found the severely injured boy in a bedroom. He was immediately transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of multiple fractures, internal injuries, contusions, burns and disfigurement, including numerous serious and life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Shearman said. The boy has since been airlifted to U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for additional treatment and care. As a result of his injuries, the boy remains in "critical" condition, according to Sheriff's Detective Billy Cobb

The boy's caregiver, Rachel A. Limon, 27, of Cottonwood was eventually contacted and, during questioning, allegedly admitted to recently physically assaulting the victim on numerous occasions during the past two weeks.

She was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of willful harm or injury to a child, aggravated mayhem and torture. Later, upon further questioning and a more complete assessment of the boy's injuries, authorities added a further charge of attempted murder.

Her brother, Gregory Limon, later admitted he knew of some of the abuse and was also booked into the jail for resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer and for willful harm or injury to a child.

Both remain in custody at the Shasta County Jail.

Shasta County Sheriff's deputies and detectives also conducted a state-wide search for Rachel Limon's own three children, who were located and found to be safe and in good health. They have also been placed in protective care.

Poor little fella, I wish him a speedy recovery. How could a human do that to another human or anything living for that matter? I really hope they throw the book at her.
