Hard on the heels of completing the North Street bridge, Anderson's City Council unanimously adopted a resolution authorizing Public Works Director Jeff Kiser to seek bids on Phase II of the street widening project.
At the council's regular meeting Tuesday, Dec. 15, Kiser assured council members that construction of an additional traffic lane and the completion of curbs, gutters, sidewalks and storm drains along the west side of North Street would be paid for with up to $490,000 in tax increment funds already appropriated by the SHASTEC redevelopment, a joint effort by county officials working with Redding and Anderson to improve the North Street-Airport Road corridor between Sharon Avenue and Ravenwood Road.
Included in the project but not part of the bid is the cost to Pacific Gas & Electric to relocate power and utility poles along the route, the second time that such work has been necessary, noted council member Keith Webster.
Project bids will be opened at 2 p.m. Jan. 13, Kiser said.
In other business, the council, acting on a recommendation from Planning Director John Stokes and City Manager Dana Shigley, to continue until Jan. 5 a public hearing on the proposed Deschutes interchange.
That project, if approved, would create a round-about traffic control structure just east of Interstate 5 and adjacent to the Shasta Outlets Shopping Center.
A source of funding still has yet to be identified for that project, Stokes previously said.
