REMEMBERING ANDY — Members of the Andy Peek family handed out 8 scholarships worth $7,500 Saturday.

College scholarships totaling $7,500 were handed out Saturday morning, Jan. 31, at the Red Bluff Bull Sale in honor of Cottonwood resident Andy Peek, who passed away a year ago in January.

Many members of the Peek family were on hand to meet and present the scholarships to the recipients.

Unfortunately, family patriarch Ellington Peek was unable to attend. Urged on by family members and friends, the elder Peek was in Arizona receiving the 2008 Industry Visionary Marketing Award for the nation's cattle industry.

Recipients of the first Andy Peek Memorial Scholarship and amounts received are as follows: Cole Scown, Jordan Valley, Ore.: $2,000.

Scholarships of $1,000 each were awarded to Kirby Flynn of Lake View, Ore., Lindsey Vial, Newberg, Ore., Mariah Fischer of Cottonwood and Kylie Watson of Marysville.

Three $500 scholarships were awarded to Kayla Kraft of Redding, Matt Lagorio of Douglas City and Bill McDonald of Galt.

The Peek family intends to make these scholarship presentations each year.
