Young cowboys and cowgirls read to rodeo once again

The California High School Rodeo Association cowboys and cowgirls held their first rodeo of the new year on Jan. 25. The first rodeo of the year is traditionally the Bull and Gelding Sale Rodeo. This rodeo was also the fourth rodeo in the season series of eight. The kids from the association competed in two go-rounds in one day. The next high school rodeo will be held Feb. 7 and 8 in Cottonwood at the Bobby Jones Arena.

There will be Wrangler Rodeo (Junior High) along with a high school rodeo on the Feb. 7. The rodeo events held at the high school level are tie down calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding, bareback riding, saddlebronc riding, breakaway roping, barrel racing, pole bending and goat tying. At the Wrangler junior high level, the events are breakaway roping, chute dogging, team roping, goat tying, steer riding, ribbon roping and pole bending.
