Ruth Drinkard Andrews

Ruth Drinkard Andrews, 85, of Redding died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at Parkway Guest House in Redding. Arrangements are pending at Lawncrest Chapel in Redding (222-1587).

(John) Howard Leonard

(John) Howard Leonard passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, January 28, 2009 with his family at his side, at the age of 79.

Born July 7th, 1929 in Fort Collins, CO.

He is preceded by his parents, Otis Lydean and Mary Eugenia Leonard, and grandson Nicholas Ross Leonard.

He is survived by wife of 34 years, Maxine, sisters Eleanor Smith of Buckley, WA and Donna Denman of Granbury TX. His children Mike (Pam) Leonard of Redding, Gary Leonard of Rocklin, Linda (Bill) Riemer of Wilton, Dave (Millie) Leonard of Cottonwood, Theresa (Steve) Schell of Sacramento, Stepdaughters Sherry Melton of Napa and Pam (Wynn) Holdol of Seattle WA. Also 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He earned a B.A., Teaching Credential, and an Administrative Services Degree from, then called, Chico State.

He was a teacher, then Principal, from 1952-1989. Twenty-five of those years were with the Cottonwood Union School District. He spoke very fondly of those years in which he met and worked with many students, teachers and parents who meant so much to him.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church and Gideon's International.

He loved any activity or event that involved his family, spending time at their cabin or traveling with his wife, Maxine. He also enjoyed hunting with his family, golf, reading (especially history), gardening and photography.

Anyone who knew him will always remember his deep commitment to family, church and friends, integrity, quick sincere smile, wonderful sense of humor, commonsense, and genuine compassion.

A Celebration of Lif will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1959 Eureka WAy, on Saturday February 7th, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. A Luncheon will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mercy Hospice, First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, or Gideon's International, P.O. Box 990735.
