Anderson library receives Eisenberg donation

The Anderson Branch Library celebrated the reception of new books purchased from a portion of $38,000 bequeathed by Frances L. Eisenberg.

The new books cost $8,000 and includes hundreds of new books, including fiction, nonfiction, children's and young adult books according to Redding Public Library Outreach Coordinator Megan Owens.

The remaining $30,000 was earmarked to go into a trust to provide yearly interest.

Frances Eisenberg was born in Tennessee in 1911. She briefly taught school and was a published writer. The Anderson Library has copies of her books, My Uncle Newt and There's One in Every Family. She also published several short stories.

She spent most of her professional career as a librarian in Los Angeles, and when she retired she moved to Anderson to live with her sister.

She is remembered by her nephew as "the most interesting and witty person I have ever known."

She donated $38,000 to the Anderson Library as a bequest, $8,000 of which has been spent on books for the Anderson Library.

The rest of the money will be held in trust to be used to supplement the books and services of the Anderson Library in the future.
