West Valley's varsity girls basketball started out rockin' in their game against the Falcons on the Friday. But it soon became apparent that whenever the Eagles gave an inch, the Falcons would take a mile.
The Eagles double digit lead was overtaken by the Falcons, who came back to win 66-61.
Consistent rebounds and solid teamwork built the Eagles an impressive 18-5 lead over the Falcons in the first quarter.
Central Valley didn't give up in the second quarter, but West Valley didn't let up either.
The Eagles were up by as much as 20 points in the first half.
Central Valley fought back late in the second quarter with steals and improved rebounding, led by the Falcons 6' 1" sophomore Breanna Mackie. She totaled 17 rebounds for the game. Meanwhile, the Falcons Lala Forrest-Cawker got hot and went on shooting spree. Forrest-Cawker had 28 points in the game.
The Eagles tried to hold strong, but were overcome by the Falcons.
The Falcons got their first lead of the game at 58-57 with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter, and strengthened it from there.
West Valley was led by sophomore Paige Adkins with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Morgan McCarley had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
The Eagles are now 3-3 and tied for third in league standings. They are 9-12 overall.
