Man hits tree after allegedly trying to run mother off road

Doris Robertson, 63, of Ore., called Anderson Police Department while driving to report that her son, Michael Robertson, 43, was trying to run her off the road on McMurry Road at about 6 a.m., Feb. 10. APD followed the vehicles northbound to North Street and onto Interstate 5.

APD officers attempted to stop Michael Robertson driving a black PT Cruiser, but he failed to yield, increasing his speed to 100 mph and swerving between lanes, forcing other vehicles off the road.

Michael Robertson exited at Churn Creek Road leading police on a 90 mph pursuit. The PT Cruiser followed Churn Creek Road south to Knighton Road, where he turned onto southbound I-5. Police reported that Michael Robertson again drove over 100 mph, weaving through traffic, forcing motorists off the road.

Due to the wet road conditions and presence of traffic amid Michael Robertson's dangerous driving, the pursuit was terminated on the Sacramento River bridge.

Michael Robertson later collided with an oak tree while not under pursuit in Tehama County, according to APD Sergeant Robert Curato.

The investigation is ongoing.
