Frank Muse of Happy Valley was honored as the 2008 Logger of the Year at the 60th annual Sierra Cascade Loggers Conference's Kick-Off breakfast and awards ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 12.

A past president of the Sierra Cascade Logging Conference, Muse grew up in the logging industry.

He rode on a lumber truck with his father as a child in Sonora and Redding.

"My dad has always driven log trucks and lumber trucks through Northern California, and I used to ride with him all the time," Muse said.

When he got married, Muse drove log trucks for his wife's parents.

Muse and his wife, Kathie, later bought the business and renamed it Muse Trucking.

About 8 years ago, they started their second company, Northern Lights Energy.

Muse was recognized not only for his long association with the timber industry, but for his community involvement as well.

He is known best in Happy Valley as an avid supporter of 4-H and FFA activities.

He is the Swine Leader for Happy Valley 4-H, while his daughter, Denise Obanion, is the community leader.

Muse and his wife started the community barbeque in support of local FFA programs, in conjunction with Anderson Explodes!

They, along with the help of other volunteers, raised about $19,000 for local FFA programs last year.

Muse and his family use money raised for the Happy Valley 4-H club to make food baskets for needy families at Christmas.
