The second Latino Family Story Program is off to a good start at the Cottonwood Community Library, reports library publicist Elaine Lowell.
"Six families come every week to read and share bilingual story books with each other," Lowell said last week.
The program is taught by two bilingual student teachers from Chico State University, she said.
Gina Gutierrez and Victor Mejia are volunteering their time and drive up from Chico to teach the Monday night class. They are both in the teacher credential program at the university.
The story program encourages parents to read to their children and each week take a book home to share with the family. Participants also are making a family scrapbook that they will take home at the end of the six-week program.
"They have taken out library cards to borrow books at the library. The library has many bilingual books to check out," Lowell said.
