We have held three meetings so far - one at Livestock Judging Day where we learned to judge animals for show, one at our leader's house and one at another member's house.
We have two junior leaders for our club. One is Julie Anne Mondorf, the other junior leader is myself, Brandon Wogoman. We help our leader out with meetings and teach the other members. We have four members in our club and everyone has their steers for the year.
We learned so much at our last meeting. Julie Anne taught us how to make rope halters, and after a few tries (well, more than a few) we made our own halters for our steers out of plain old rope.
Then Julie taught us about parasites and gave us a quiz. We enjoyed some beef- barley, vegetable soup that tasted really great! The soup bone was donated to us by one of our members.
We talked about the upcoming year and what our plans are. We decided to buy wormer for our animals and decided to use an injectible wormer versus using a pour-on wormer. It will work better for our animals. We also talked about upcoming events.
After enjoying some homemade cookies, we all went outside and weighed one of our member's steers with the new scale we have. We also wormed her steer.
We talked about an upcoming fundraiser with Mary's Pizza Shack. It is planned for Jan. 14 from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Whatever people order - dine in, take out or delivery - we will get 20 percent for our club! We will make up flyers since customers must one in hand in order for our club to get credit.
Our next meeting will be held in Igo at another member's house. Two members will give demonstrations and it will be very interesting to learn more.
Well, that is all for this month.
