Shasta Community College opportunities

<B>Musicians wanted - </B>The Shasta College Community Concert Band invites all interested musicians to join this 100+ member ensemble for the new Spring 2009 semester. This semester is a special landmark because it will mark the community band's 30th anniversary. The ensemble is open to all community members who read music and play a standard wind band instrument (woodwind, brass, or percussion) and does not require auditions.

On Thursday January 15th at 7:00 p.m., in room 633 (the Band Room) at Shasta College, there will be a brief special introductory meeting for all new members. Regular full rehearsals will begin on Thursday, January 22nd. For more information or to answer any questions, contact the Community Concert Band's conductor, Dr. Larry Grandy, at 242-2362.

<B>California construction programs -</B> The Shasta College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be holding three workshops for the California Contracting Program, under Module 1: Construction Contracts.

Course 1: Prime & Subcontractor Relations will be held on Monday, January 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Course 2: Project Management & Construction Methods will be held on Monday, January 12, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Course 3: Change Orders, Extra Work, Claims & Disputes, and Project Closeout will be held on Tuesday, January 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. All of these courses will be presented by Ed Duarte and will be held in Room 8220, at the Shasta College Health Science University Center, 14000 Market Street. <B>Quickbooks -</B> The Shasta College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be holding a workshop entitled Using QuickBooks<0x00AE> for Payroll Session One, on Wednesday, January 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the SBDC Training Room (1420 Butte Street), downtown Redding. Learn how to do your own payroll using QuickBooks<0x00AE>. You will learn how to set up payroll items and employee information, how to use timecards and create paychecks. This topic is not complete unless it is followed by Session Two. The workshop will be presented by Quickbooks<0x00AE> expert Mary Richmond.

<B>Business Development - </B>The Shasta College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be holding a workshop entitled So...You Want to Start a Business, on Wednesday, January 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the SBDC Training Room (1420 Butte Street), downtown Redding. The path traveled to start, run, and grow a business is filled with a variety of obstacles that often result in costly set-backs, or even failure. The SBDC's experts have traveled the path and can assist with overcoming the obstacles. The result is lower risk and increased probability of success. The presenter for this class will be Keli Anthis.

This seminar is a short introduction to entrepreneurship and the creation and development of new business ventures. Participants explore the identification and evaluation of new business concepts, the development of the business plan, organizational structure, financing, and critical success factors for entrepreneurs.
