Violence in Shasta County community forum/town hall meeting

A free public community forum/town hall meeting is being presented by Lynn E. Fritz, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist on “Violence in Shasta County” on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, 6-8 p.m. at the Shasta Learning Center, 2200 Eureka Way, Redding.

The forum will feature keynote speaker Mary Manin Morrissey, international speaker, author and 1998 president for “The Association for Global New Thought.” Morrissey spoke at the United Nations proposing their endorsement of “A Season for Nonviolence” and, after the successful endorsement, she also participated in the synthesis dialogues with the Dali Lama along with educators, spiritual leaders, economists, medical and business professionals and others from around the world.

The evening will also feature as speakers Andrea Asebedo, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Maggie John, Executive Director, Shasta Women’s Refuge and a panel of dignitaries including Mary Leas Stegall, Redding City Council Member, Chief Peter Hansen, Redding Police Department, Denny Mills, VOCIES and Student Services/Shasta County Office of Education, Shasta County Office of Education and Lt. Mike Ashmund, Shasta County Sheriff’s Department.

The panelists will present an overview of violence and related issues in Shasta County, review what programs are in place to address these issues and field questions from the audience in this regard. The event is open to the public.
