Instructor training for senior fitness classes

The Active Aging Community Task Force is sponsoring an exercise instructor training on Friday, January 30, 2009 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The instructor training focuses on how to teach easy balance and strength exercises modified for seniors. The training is being offered to anyone that is interested in volunteering to teach a Fun with Senior Fitness balance and strength exercise class. Prior teaching experience is not necessary to attend the training and teach classes. Courtney McElvain, from the Redding area will lead the free training.

Currently there are 26 locations in Shasta County with on-going Fun with Senior Fitness classes. Classes are offered free or low-cost ($3.00 or less) to seniors aged 50 years and older. Volunteer instructors are needed throughout Shasta County.

The Active Aging Community Task Force is made up of local residents and professionals who gather to promote and teach physical activity for seniors. Older adults who have regular physical activity are less likely to fall.
