Anderson business Pre-Employ.com laid off about 10 employees Jan. 1 in positions that were found to be redundant after a business acquisition and internal reorganization, according to Pre-Employ.com C.E.O. Robert Mather.
Pre-Employ.com aquired Redding business Employer’s Advantage in December.
Mather said layoffs would be permanent unless sales accelerate beyond expectations. The company employs an average of 150 people, including the new Redding branch.
“We made an acquisition of another company that specializes in unemployment claims management processing for corporations,” Mather said. “We assumed 100 percent of their employee base. . . . We opened a second campus in Redding by the airport and moved some employee to that location.”
Mather declined to state the cost of the merger.
Mather said the business also consolidated its three corporations under the one banner of Pre-Employ.com. The other two were named MyBackgroundCheck.com and Past-Employ.com.
Although employment screenings are down across America, Mather added that Pre-Employ provides other services, including unemployment insurance claims management and work opportunity tax credit.
Mather added that the business is continuing to invest for growth and expects to open a third Anderson location within the next two years.
Pre-employ.com was founded in 1994 and moved its operations to Anderson in 2004. The business was voted “Best company to work for in Shasta County” in 2008.
