During excavation work to ultimately widen North Street, a third-party contractor for the City of Anderson struck a PG&E natural gas line at about 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16.
The break occurred at about 300 feet west of Stingy Lane. APD closed down North Street from Wendy Lane to Stingy Lane for about 20 minutes before PG&E workers could arrive for repairs.
PG&E repaired the half-inch plastic gas line by 10 a.m., according to PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno.
No customers were affected, as the line was no longer in service, Moreno said.
Moreno recommends keeping one's distance from a gas leak, which can be recognized by a rotten egg smell. He also recommended calling 911 or PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.
