A local girls soccer team comprised of players from Cottonwood, Anderson, Red Bluff and Redding has quietly been making its way through the soccer postseason and are now in a hair's breath of playing for the CYSA-North State Championship.
The team is AC United, a U12 girls division III soccer team, playing out of the Anderson Soccer League.
After advancing out of the bracket round the previous week, they swept through the Sweet Sixteen Round of the championship tournament on Saturday Jan. 17, beating the Placer Flames by 2-0 and on Sunday defeated the Santa Rosa Shooting Stars in a come-from-behind 2-1 win in the quarter finals. This earned them a place in the semi-finals on Sunday in Danville, with the championship game to be played on Sunday.
The girls are at the end of a successful season that includes a 35-6-2 record with 26 wins coming by shutout. They've lost only one game since October, and over the season they won four tournament championships including the District IX District Cup championship for their age group.
In compiling their impressive record they have proved to be an offensive juggernaut, scoring an impressive 148 goals on their opponents while allowing a mere 25 goals scored.
