The July 8 meeting between Shasta County Supervisors and Transmission Agency of Northern California (TANC) was cancelled by TANC officials last week. The meeting was billed to provide a question and answer session about the TANC Transmission Project (TTP).
TANC cited the withdrawl of TTP funding by Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) as why the meeting was cancelled.
The scoping period for the project was not to be extended as of Monday, July 6.
"I take great exception to this abrupt cancellation while the scoping process continues," Supervisor of District 5 Baugh said. "On the face I could assume that TANC is weighing it's options, and yet … the cancellation simply clouds the issue all the more."
The anti-TANC rally, however, is still scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, where a keynote speaker would discuss her dealings with transmission projects as an attorney at Holiday Inn, 1900 Hilltop Dr., in Redding.
The group walk from Redding City Hall to Cascade Theatre from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 is also still on the books, according to Cottonwood community organizer Donna Caldwell.
"Our statement with our rally, with our very peaceful walk will be: They may not think of us as important, but we will be at the doors of the Cascade hoping that they change their minds," Cottonwood community organizer Donna Caldwell said.
