District One Wrangler Youth participants from the north state recently competed in the Wrangler Junior High School National Finals Rodeo in Gallup, N.M. They brought home a new perspective on the events that take place at the larger rodeos.

Throughout the seven-day rodeo they participated in two go-rounds of their events and the short go-round if their times were fast enough.

"This has been a great experience for all of the kids. They have had fun competing with other kids around the nation and spending time bonding with one another. They spent a lot of time in our camp competing on the ‘heel-o-matic' that is used for team roping training and getting prepared for their events," said Cameron Jones's mother Heather Jones of Cottonwood. "It is not an experience they are going to forget for awhile."

The youths from Wrangler Junior High District One placed in their events as follows as they are now currently ranked in the nation in their events.

Boys Goat Tying:

• 9th place, Sterling Humphrey of McArthur 34.094 seconds in three go-rounds.

• 64th place, Quincy Crum of Little Valley 31.491 seconds in two go-rounds.

• 124th place, Sterling Humphrey, McArthur 12.873 seconds on one go-round.

Team Roping:

• 49th place Wyatt Brown and Chelsey Bushnell of Red Bluff 22.213 seconds on two go rounds.

Break Away Roping:

• 84th place Wyatt Brown of Red Bluff 12.932 seconds on two go-rounds.

Girls Goat Tying:

• 99th place, Macey Cox of Arbuckle 40.246 seconds on three go-rounds.

• 100 plus, Linda Johnson of Fort Jones, 8.812 seconds on one go-round.

Cameron Jones and Bodie Robbins of Cottonwood put on a tough fight, but hit and missed in the team roping competition.

Both are looking forward to next year's rodeo season.

The Wrangler team from California placed 10th with a total of 4,460 points. The state of Oaklahoma came in first with 7,620 points. California Boys placed all around in 4th with 3720 points.

California girls placed 22nd with 740 points.
