The California High School Rodeo Association District One athletes will be competing in Farmington, New Mexico beginning July 18th when they would compete in two go-rounds each and the short go if they qualify.
District One has a total of seven rodeo athletes attending the National Finals in Farmington New Mexico. Casey Meroshnekoff, Zack Brown and Bubba Davies of Red Bluff would compete in the bareback event. The goat tying event would include Callie Anthony of Red Bluff and Blair Bidwell of Hat Creek.
Laramie Collins of Weed will compete in the bull riding and Saddle Bronc event, and Daniel Ferreira is set for steer wrestling.
Five North State youth have been actively seeking help with funding in the area to help to finance their trip to the National Finals Rodeo in New Mexico. For some it is not the first go-round at the finals.
"It is a great accomplishment for me to be able to go to New Mexico," Davies said. "Competing at Nationals raises the competition level and adds greater importance which is the key factor for becoming a better rider. I am looking forward to getting on some great horses and seeing where I stand in the nation.
"I would like to thank my mom and dad for being supportive of me through my career. I would also like to thank Growney Rodeo Company, Four Star Rodeo Company and Rocking M Rodeo for bringing great horses to our rodeos and Tim Birdwell and John Growney for allowing me to practice at the Growney Arena."
Davies is currently ranked 4th in the state and looks forward to competing at the National Level along with other team members. To help fund the youths' way to the rodeo competition, call 530-529-1909.
