Racist act occurs in Anderson, CA

Dear Editor,

A couple of months ago, my daughter was moving her things across town to her new home here in Anderson. On the way, while under the freeway overpass on North Street, the truck broke down.

Behind her was a truck with two young men and, rather than helping a young woman obviously in need of some assistance, they began honking at her. She put the truck into neutral and struggled to push it into a nearby lot as they drove past her and yelled out a very vulgar racial slur.

Now, my point here isn't to chastise those boys, but to point out that at least one out of the two of them could have been human enough to do the right thing.

We all live here and we all know right from wrong. My daughter and I love living in Anderson and we both grew up here, but some of us still have some more growing up to do.

Sincerely,

Lori Coker

A third generation Anderson resident

Editor,

My name is Donna Caldwell, Cottonwood. I am a core group member of North State Land Owners Committee. We are united with all who are effected by the 600-mile transmission project now infamously known as TANC.

Our unity has been growing in vast numbers from Maxwell, Red Bluff and here in Shasta County.

It is our desire to STOP TANC and this very unnecessary project from destroying the lives of the citizens and the decimation of the North State. In our momentum, we are wearing green "STOP TANC" T-shirts and sporting our "STOP TANC" bumper stickers.

We, the citizens, cannot afford to live amongst power lines existing within the possibility of 30 feet from our homes. The health concerns should not afford us to be the sacrificial guinea pigs. The financial devaluation and the per chance of eminent domain is injustice, particularly at a time of recession, high unemployment and loss of tax revenue for our struggling communities.

This project jeopardizes our Cottonwood Livestock yard. The approximately 100 jobs lost there would be a devastating loss of revenue for Shasta County.

Most sincerely,

Donna Caldwell

Cottonwood
