Jr. Eagles visit Butte College football camp

Local Jr. Eagle football players got a jump on their season by attending a Nor-Cal football camp hosted by the undefeated 2008 National Champions, Butte College. Camp was specifically geared toward quarterback and wide receiver skill sets. Athletes from numerous youth football programs participated as well as junior varsity and varsity players from a variety of high schools. Players varied from 6th, 7th, and 8th graders up to the high school senior level.

An impressive line up of coaches included Jeff Jordan, Head Football Coach/Quarterback Coach at Butte College. He has coached former Butte College quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Brett Ratliff, and Matt Ray. Aaron's brother Jordan Rodgers, currently a quarterback for Butte played an important role in coaching these young players.

The wide receivers were coached by Robby Snelling, Butte's Offensive Coordinator, who is a former Butte College Roadrunner, Boise State Bronco, and Tennessee Titan. Bobby Bernal the wide receiver coach for the school, also coach the receiver's. After playing for Butte, Bernal was second in the country in receptions at University of Idaho and holds their receiving records.

Camp curriculum included drills, individual technique, and studying film. Temperatures soared well above the 100 degree mark all three days of the camp. Player and coaches appeared to not notice the heat except to sweat profusely. Camp provided cold water on the sidelines at all times for participants.

To wrap up the third day of camp athletes competed against each other in timed drills. The quarterbacks competed against the other quarterbacks and the wide receivers against the other wide receivers. Sean McComas, a veteran West Valley Jr. Eagle football quarterback took first place in the eighth grade quarterback division.

Another veteran WVJE player, Austin Clark won the wide receiver division for the eighth graders.
