Paul Steel, 83, of Anderson died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Oak River Rehab in Anderson. Arrangements handled by Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Anderson (365-5466).
William "Bill" Frost
William "Bill" Frost, born May 21, 1925, aged 84 years, passed on July 16, 2009. A resident of Anderson, CA since 1963. He was the Son of Mabel and Roy Frost and one of nine children, Wayne, Marge, Rose, Ida, James, Francis, Gene and Cecil.
He was married September 1, 1951 in Hayward, CA to Jeanette Lemke.
He attended Yreka High School till enlistment into the United States Marine Corps in 1943. As a member of the 2nd Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, he served in a combat intelligence unit in Pacific Theater of WW II. He was part of the occupation forces after the fall of Japan. His enlistment ended in 1946. He learned to fly on the GI bill and received his pilots license in 1948.
For a short spell he worked in a Yreka lumber mill. Then changed his career and he moved to Hayward working for Clement's Highway Construction Company. It was in Hayward that he was introduced to his lovely wife to be, Jeanette Lemke. The couple was married September 1, 1951.
In 1955 they moved to Siskiyou County and the town of Montague where in at the local airport he worked all phases of flying from Instruction to charter services. At this time he also flew part time for the U.S. Forest Service dropping Borate, a fire retardant, on forest fires a difficult and dangerous job. In 1961 he went to work full time with the U.S. Forest Service and did everything from flying lead plane for the forest fire retardant dropping missions to flying VIPs around. He retired from the Forest service in 1982 and went o work for Empire Airways that contracted with the Forest Service to fly smoke-jumpers during the forest fire seasons. He retired in 1992 to farming kiwis with his wife Jeanette at his Anderson home.
His hobbies included raising horses, metalworking, skeet shooting and traveling.
A Lifetime member of Anderson Chapter of the VFW. Parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by His wife Jeanette Frost. His sons Brad Frost and Dave Frost of Anderson and son Steve Frost of San Diego. And by his grandchildren Ryan, Brandon, Chris, Jennifer and Mikel. His siblings Rose, Ida, Francis, Gene and Cecil and his great grandchildren, Brandon, Kaitlin, Sadie and Sydney
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM, July 31, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church 3141 St. Stephens Way, Anderson, CA. Father Matthew presiding. Reception to follow.
