Before many go on to football practice with the Junior Cubs, about 60 youths attended a football camp held by Anderson Parks and Recreation and led by Anderson Union High School varsity football coach Lance Gosch.

The young football players, a mix of 2nd through 8th graders, learned exercises and football fundamentals from the coach they could play for in high school.

"It's about having a good time and teaching the fundamentals of football," coach Gosch said, as the ball players left for the sidelines on a water break.

"We're getting them used to this they are prepared for junior varsity and varsity," Gosch's assistant Del Bunselmeir said of the many stretching and coordination drills the youths performed. On the sidelines, parents watched their children go through the drills.

"He loves it, he can't wait to be a Mighty Might," Deanna Trotter said of her 8-year-old son Marcus.

With games beginning in late August, the Junior Cubs football program is already packed with waiting lists for some teams. For more information, see their Web site at www.jrcubs.com.
