Happy Valley Pride: June 3, 2009

It's 2:35 a.m. and the wind is calling me to listen to the night sounds.

A little bird calls out. Am I the only one who hears it?

Its melody is answered by another and then silence.

Soon the first bird starts in again. In the meantime, the air is alive with the sound of crickets. The males are calling out their love song. They will go on for hours.

A long distance away, I hear a dog bark but none return his call. The coyotes are silent. I love hearing their call and I strain to listen, but they are quiet tonight.

The sounds of man fade in and out. A lonely car coming up the road; an airplane's roar slicing through the night sky before fading away.

It is time for me to return to the comfort of my own bed.

Today is a new day. Let's enjoy what is right with the world.

The weather is lovely. The crops are growing. My daughter Nancy will be here soon for a long visit from her home in the east. My son Dan, who did not have a job, is now employed. My daughter Beverly is recovering from a serious operation. Finally, everyone in the family is healthy.

The Farm Trail maps are here. Take time today and give God thanks for all that is good in your life. I know a lot of you are hurting and the only way I can help you is by prayer.

The Happy Valley Farm Trail Maps will be available at the following locations: in Happy Valley at Bonney's Burger, Clear Creek Community Serviced District, Shasta Pizza, Country Market, The Buzz, Happy Stop and Discount Feed; in Anderson the maps will be available at Curves, the Anderson Valley Post and the Shasta County Health Department; in Redding the maps will be available at Graphic Emporium and the Welcome Center near the Civic Center.

Happy Valley Farm Trail members had our last meeting until September and it was decided we should have a pot luck party.

Farm Trail members will be at the Shasta District Fair again this year. Last year, we won first place. We will also go to Red Bluff on June 27 for the "Field to Fork" event. I will let you know more about that as the event gets closer.

The berries are turning and by the time you read this, I will be selling. I'm out the door to inspect the color on my berries, mow the lawn and get the farm ready for my customers.

Have a good week.

Think positive, pray, recycle, volunteer and don't let the bed bugs bite.
