County to open Anderson health office

A social services office is due to open mid-July in the Public Health building at 2889 East Center St. in Anderson, said Sue Dodson, Deputy Director of Eligibility and Employment Services Programs through Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA).

About 1,200 of the 2,600 South County cases would be served out of the office, Dodson said.

To service the public, six staff members including four case managers, a lead case manager and an office assistant would relocate to Anderson from Redding.

"When we created the HHS agency three years ago, part of the new philosophy of the agency was to make services accessible to clients," Dodson said. "We were trying to develop a regional approach because transportation is a huge issue for many of our clients. Even for those who do (have their own vehicle), gas is so expensive."

Programs to be managed from the Anderson office will include the County Medical Services Program, food stamps, Medi-Cal and CalWORKs.

A committee is looking at four or five locations in Anderson for an eventual office.

"We would like to bring more staff at a later date, but (budget concerns) keep us from moving forward," she said. "That's an ideal goal we have, but it's based on funding. We're in a holding pattern right now."
