After growing up in Alaska and living in Southern California, Sherry Biddle moved to Shasta County to get away from rapidly growing city, and being able to live in a warmer climate. She has lived in the Anderson Community since 2006.
While growing up in Alaska, since age five Biddle's dream was to be a hair stylist. She would practice on her older brother, giving him hair cuts when he was younger. After high school, Biddle attended Trend Setters Beauty School in Anchorage. She has been a hair stylist for the past 21 years including 12 years at Super Cuts in the bay area, two of those years in a management position.
Before opening Kool Cutz with her business partner Lori Tracy, the two worked together at Hot Cuts in Anderson which has recently gone out of business.
When the opportunity came along of opening her own salon along with Tracy, the two realized that they always got along well and had fun working together. Soon after the decision was made, they began renovation of their current location. Along with family members and a contractor the two began grouting and staining tile, assembling work stations and making sure that all the permits for the salon were in place.
Kool Cutz has been open for one month and will celebrate it's grand opening in August.
"The salon has been setup quickly with all of the help we have had. It is really a huge accomplishment for us," stated Biddle.
The customer base for Kool Cutz has been 95 percent return clientele, that Biddle and Tracy worked with while at Hot Cuts.
"There are many families that bring in their children and grandchildren, it is like having an extended family," said Biddle.
Biddle enjoys each and everyday styling hair. Every hair cut, client and style is different and no two days are ever the same. Her favorite type of hair style to do is a flat top, since they take a lot of concentration to get the cut just perfect.
In the future, Biddle would like to hire two more stylists for the salon. Beyond that, things have moved so quickly for Biddle that she and Tracy have not really been able to think about long term goals. Both know, that they would like to keep the shop open for many years to come.
Biddle enjoys the community of Anderson because of the small town atmosphere, and is close to many mountains, lakes and beautiful rivers. In her spare time, Biddle enjoys spending time with her family taking part in many of the recreation opportunities that the North State has to offer. Her favorite however is going snow mobiling.
"There is nothing better than going snowmobiling. I grew up in Alaska riding snowmobiles and going trick or treating at Halloween by snowmobile. There is nothing like it," said Biddle.
