Summer Schappell, 15, of Redding is gearing up to make her first appearance at the Shasta District Fair on Wednesday June 17, at 7 p.m. on the Pepsi Stage.
It is her first fair venue, but she is hoping for many more to come. With a CD of her own produced in Nashville, Schappell is already experiencing a fair amount of success by opening for larger names in the Country music industry such as Josh Turner and others.
As in years past, Schappell has continued performing with Kids Unlimited of Redding and Enterprise Starship, the performing arts group from Enterprise High School. Schappell has traveled with Enterprise Starship to different competitions around the state and has also performed at venues for the Sons of Italy, Parson's Junior High School and other organizations.
Performing with the two groups has given Schappell the chance of a lifetime, working with live bands, individual artists, in groups or alone.
"Performing is my passion. It is fun! It's real, something everyone needs to experience. Singing and dancing with a live band, the outcome of all the hard work in and out of class is worth every moment," said the obviously enthused Schappell.
"With every show that I perform in, whether it is with Enterprise Starship, Kids Unlimited or by myself, I am so excited to be able to share my music with others. It is what I feel I am suppose to be doing with my life," she added.
On a more personal level, Schappell has recorded and released her first album this year, opened for singer Josh Turner, performed at the Baby Expo with other local artists and participated in several concerts and meet-and-greets in Oroville and Chico. Her most recent endeavor was a benefit concert for the Tehama County Foster Parents Association and Mentoring Project in Red Bluff where she headlined the show and sang her first duet with long-time friend and fellow singer Chad Bushnell of Red Bluff, along with a troupe from Kids Unlimited.
Still, Schappell is looking forward to singing at the Shasta District Fair this year.
